3 days on the Belgian Coast

You feel like you could use a long weekend? Why not take a few days to relax and enjoy the Belgian Coast? From De Panne to Knokke-Heist, this is an all-season holiday destination.

Whether it's relaxing, strolling, dining, enjoying the sun, water sports and keeping fit and healthy, spending time by the sea will leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. No matter where you "land", meaning which resort by the sea you choose, there is a coastal tram that can easily take you from one to another so you don't even have to spend your few days in the same place.

Day 1

Start your day with a walk on the coast, enjoy the sea air and the soft sand under your feet. In De Panne you can rent a sand yacht and get on "rolling" on the sand. On the other hand, a pedal bike might be just as good of an idea, and the best part is that you can choose one for you alone, or one for couples, or even for a family. Take some time to relax on the beach, enjoy water sports and maybe a drink at one of the beach bars. In the afternoon, if your energy level is still adequate, horse riding on the 70 km of paths along the coast can really provide you with a memorable experience on your holiday on the Belgian Coast. Back at your holiday accommodation you can just relax and enjoy the evening air by the sea, barbecue, relax by the pool if the case.

Day 2

If you're a fan of speeding over the water then you should try the Lakeside Paradise Knokke. Water skiing and wakeboarding here will be a total thrill. When you feel you've challenged yourself just about enough, go on a heritage trail or a landscape trail along the coast. Put on some comfy shoes and take the De Haan heritage walking route, starting at the historic tram station and leading through the picturesque "Concession" district. The Duinbergen Heritage walking route is another option, you can stop at the Albert beach and also enjoy the family holiday resort Heist. De Panne has a very rich architectural heritage, which you can discover on a long walk as well, and if you're closer to it, don't miss Blankenberge... it's a fascinating seaside town. Spend the afternoon playing a game of golf at one of the golf courses on the coast: De Haan: Wenduine, Knokke-Heist, Oostende, Middelkerke: Westende and Koksijde: Oostduinkerke. If you prefer nightlife, you won't miss out on it on the Belgian Coast. There are numerous clubs and pubs you can rock your way into. Explore, explore, explore!

Day 3

You can spend this day in many ways: you can either go out to the sea on a boat, maybe even go fishing, or explore the Coastal Cycling Network (600 km of cycling paths) or part of it at least. Of course, you can choose a walking network or simply strolling along the promenade until you get tired and then just "set camp" at a terrace and enjoy a drink. This is a mere example of what a short holiday on the Belgian Coast has to offer. Of course, there is much more, but that's for you to discover. A few hints: waffles, seafood, oysters and fries, visiting nearby Bruges – city of arts, Ostend harbor and town, the Het Zwin nature reserve and many others. What's your favorite way of enjoying the sea in Belgium?
